Personal Digital Audio & Video Converting Guide
As we all know CDs & DVDs are prone to scratching, marking, cracking & breaking and if you own a CD rental store or if you have a huge amount of CD collection, I bet you want to make sure that each of your CD stays in good shape to be played. Now the best ways to prevent your CD’s from being damaged are simple, they aren’t much to do protect them. Following these simple steps will ensure you can use your CD’s and DVD’s for dvd copying and cd copying for years to come.
Choose a proper storage. Keep your CDs in there Jewel Cases. If not, here are PVC wallets which act as simple protection or Card Wallets. For your DVDs you must keep them in their DVD boxes or, as previously mentioned, PVC Wallets and Card wallets will do but CD Jewel case will definitely perform better as a CD storage.
How to Distinguish Good CD Jewel Case from Bad CD Jewel Case? Okay, the cover of good quality CD jewel case is very clear. A clear case is a sign that it is made of 100% new material. The Disc Tray Shouldn’t Be Fragile. You should be aware that many CD cases come with trays using recycled material but with covers that are made of new material.
Clean the disc. Even if a CD isn’t actually scratched, dust, oil, and other dirt on the surface may prevent it from properly read by the player. Run warm water over the disc to remove dust. If there is stubborn dirt or grease on the disc, gently rub it with your finger while you are washing it, and use a gentle detergent or liquid soap (with the water) or rubbing alcohol (in place of water). The best way to clean your discs is to move in straight lines from the inside edge to the outside edge to prevent scratching. Shake the water off and let the disc air-dry (do not dry it with a towel or cloth, and don’t expose it under the sun either).
Recovering it from scratch. If your CD or DVD gets scratched, it doesn’t mean that the CD is permanently damaged! The scratching on the surface of the disc simply fools the laser and makes it skip because the scratch preventing the laser to read the data. It may cause the CD to no longer playable but it doesn’t mean that it’s totally damaged.
There are plenty of repair kits around to eliminate this scratch problem. These repair kits are a compound mixture of polish specially designed for the plastic on compact discs. The mixture interacts with the polymer and allows the polish to get to work on the scratch. This will usually restore the music back to full playability.
Protect the CD center hub. Carelessly pulling the disc out of its case is bad for the center hub area of the disc. Disc players grab the center hole and cause stress to the center ring area of a disc. Over time, cracking or breakage to the center area can occur. If these fissures grow, they can lead to disc failure.
To prevent it from happening you can attach a metal reinforced centre-hub. It’s easy to attach and will reduce the stress. This will prevent the discs from cracking at the centre. Enjoy..
